HISTORY

Michael Monroe started life the hard way. Both of his parents were drug addicts. He and his brother had to fend for themselves when he was 12 years old. They lived on their own in a seedy motel, stealing food to survive until Michael ended up at Camp Miller for purse-snatching. By participating in the Create Now! Talent Show, Michael turned everything around and won First Prize with his special brand of "rap-arté" and fellow performer Keelan. Create Now! arranged for both young men to record their songs professionally and he was hooked on music.

Through Create Now! Michael gives back to the community with a passion on a regularly basis, He frequently performs in front of hundreds of youths who are locked up in detention camps - just like he was. KL shares his music and encourages them to stay out of trouble.  He helps those kids who want to further their music careers once they're released from the institutions by producing their songs. KL says, "Investing in people pays big rewards."

KL is lyric-crazy! In the past ten years he composed over five-hundred rap and hip-hop tunes and performed most of them along the way. "Give And Take" is a new track that pays tribute and memorializes Shadee (a close friend) whose life ended prematurely from a drive-by-shooting. His choice of subjects and flair with words are compelling, particularly to those who live in a tough neighborhood or fractured family. They know he knows. Michael's lyrics and high-octane delivery are knockin' em dead.

The cuts reflect a compelling living experience that has been quite challenging. There is no separation between the music and the life of the man. KL is an urban reporter publishing pros on plastic. Writing and producing is like therapy, facing past difficulties, letting go, and moving on. Rather than harbor a bitter attitude, or follow negative bars of other rappers, his songs offer promise and hope that drive audiences to chant and cheer him on.

"Mercury" is KL's first music video about heavy metal pollution, produced and edited by Kelly ? Together they made a killer flick filled with charm and fun.
